Search Engine Optimization or SEO, as the name indicates, refers to the process of engineering your website and the content on it in a way that allows popular search engines to list it within the top searches if the relevant keywords are entered. This is extremely important for generating traffic for your website which in turn translates into revenue streams.

Focus on One Topic and Use Related Keywords Effectively
Keywords are the backbone of every SEO effort because that is how major search engines find relevant content for users. Google lets you search for keywords that are specific and most effective in your category. It is important to search and utilize these keywords. However, the catch here is to avoid unnecessary usage of the words. This spoils the overall appeal of the website.
Another important aspect to consider is to stick to one topic. It doesn’t mean that it has to be one small topic because that limits the content that you can churn out. Choose a broad one and even if you write about something else, at the end bring the discussion back to your topic of choice.
Efficient Hyper Linking: External and Internal
Hyper linking is extremely important. Internal links mean adding clickable leads to pages within your website to allow ease of access to users. External links are for relevant websites that are not exactly your competitors but elaborate topics that are out of the scope of yours. It is also a sound strategy to hyper-link images so that they can lead to links that might interest the visitor.
Another important trick is to have other websites link to yours. This can bring in traffic from other places even if your website didn’t show up for that specific person.
An outdated website is one of the biggest throw off for search engines and visitors. Google usually lists search results with dates on which they were posted with the latest results on top. Be sure to keep your website loaded with latest and relevant information. Avoid adding features that you know you won’t be able to update, e.g. blogs. If you still think it is a must have feature, get someone to manage it for you.
Make it mobile friendly
People are ditching desktops and laptops increasingly because smartphones allow for amazing functionality these days. Google is, therefore, tweaking its web results to give higher ratings to websites that have mobile friendly versions. If you’re still not there, it is a good time to fix it.
Focus on the URLs
Some websites have ugly web links, e.g. http://thesite.net/?p=5. This can hurt your chances of popping up in searches on major platforms. Try having links that give hints to the content on the page it directs to.
In conclusion, the steps to an optimized website include effective use of keywords and hyper-links, keeping up to date with catchy URLs and having a mobile version. If you put in efforts in the right direction, there is no way you won’t achieve results.
